Your pet will be placed under general anesthesia for a surgical procedure today. All pets presented for surgical procedures will have the following:
- Balanced anesthesia including premedications, intubation and gas anesthesia.
- If necessary, an IV catheter will be placed for the administration of emergency medications.
- IV fluid therapy may be administered to keep the pet hydrated and maintain the pet’s blood pressure.
- Pain medication, both in the hospital and to go home when necessary.
Preanesthetic Bloodwork - Schedule a Tech Appointment - blood must be drawn at least 24 hours prior to Anesthesia.
Bloodwork to screen for internal problems is strongly required for all pets undergoing anesthesia. To minimize the risk of such occurrences, baseline bloodwork is performed in order to assure proper organ function, detect anemia or infection. Preanesthetic bloodwork includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC) to evaluate the blood cells and a chemistry panel to evaluate the liver and kidney function, electrolytes, protein and more. Abnormalities in a pet’s bloodwork can point us toward previously unidentified problems that may not be evident on physical examination alone.

I understand that the veterinary staff will limit risk to every extent possible through preanesthetic testing and monitoring during anesthesia, but elimination of risk is impossible. I understand that serious complications and/or death may result from any anesthetic procedure and will not hold the veterinary hospital or staff liable. I assume full financial responsibility for this patient and understand that payment is due at the time of service.
